Hello Folks,
I have been using 2003 Altima that runs well and I think I deserve a better car for myself.
May I get some input on going for CPO X3 2021 in terms of reliability and maintenance cost?
Which trim?
Coming up on 50k miles on my 2019 30i and it’s been great. No weird issues or unexpected maintenance outside of regular schedule stuff. It does burn through tires and brakes, but that’s likely more my wife’s fault than the car. Maintenance is definitely going to be more expensive as you’ll want to do the xdrive service, coolant, brake fluid, transmission, etc. The Altima is FWD, so that’ll be new and that xdrive service runs about $700 at a dealer. It gets great gas mileage and if you want to add a little more power, you can grab a JB+ which is 2 clips into one wire and adds about 20-30hp/tq. Obviously lots of other options if you want to get nuts with tuning and bolt on parts.
Coming up on 50k miles and a 2019 you are just about start having to pay for anything. It’s been free.
Edit. Not free. Worked there. Budgeted into the price.
We love our X3. 2022 AWD
The most common issue I see is coolant leaks. CPO does not cover the hoses and that is what usually leaks. It can be about $600-$1k for that repair if you cannot DIY.
Personally I would avoid the CPO premium and self-insure. So many complaints on forums now about CPO failing to pay out.
I also suggest learning to DIY basic maintenance. The X3 is surprisingly good in terms of ease of oil changes, spark plugs, brakes and so forth.
Why not a 3 series? If you are to pay BMW money, unless you need the larger trunk, why get the compromised driving experience of a SUV?
Love mine. Have a 2021 myself. I do wish it had remote start, so you may look at a ‘22 if that matters for you — I think that’s when they started putting it in anyway. Obviously if you can afford it, the m40i is the most fun way to go. It’ll eat more fuel and I’ve heard it’s a stiffer ride, but that M 🤌
Make sure you test drive it in the different modes. It starts in Comfort which was fine for me for a while, but it brakes a little weird when you’re coming to a stop. I prefer Sport; just feels smoother.
Thanks everyone.
And also , if I buy 2021 or 2022 , the CPO warranty kicks in once after the 4 years/ 50k miles is completed?
Is CPO an additional cost ?
How much pain can you take?
