I have a Volkswagen 2012 polo and I noticed my keys don’t freely turn we have to put force, when compared to other cars… I asked my service center to fix it and they said there’s no use lubricating it, I have to change the entire key cylinder mechanism which costs quite a lot… Is there any easy diy solution to this ?

Thanks in advance.

Vw ignition switches of those model years are known for this. It wont matter what you do to try slowing it down, the cylinder prematurely fails.

For a diy solution idea? My buddy’s finally failed with the key in on position. He was able to start it but not shut it off(couldnt pull the key out).He installed a killswitch in order to shut the car off and used his spare to lock it. He drove it that way for years before scrapping it.

VW should really cover this shit. Toyota ignition switches can probably last 100 years in comparison lol.
