2007 Honda CRV. Tried to replace my sway bar bushing and this happened.
Drill and tap . Simple . have repaired many of these . I do work at a Honda repair shop
Don’t bother drilling or extracting at all, buy a welder or pay a mobile guy and you’ll have them out in minutes with totally fine threads
Wish I had a welder
Black Friday harbor freight is calling
Works in a pinch . Lol.
“Guess who’s getting a welder!”
Your getting a welder and your getting a welder or whatever Oprah said.
Those that do this kinda work can take care of it for you. You are not screwed. Just out some money.
Not the end of the world, harbor freight 120v mig welder is about $100 go pick one up and weld a nut to it. The heat from the welder also helps loosen up the bolt. It’s a set back definitely but think of it as a learning experience and you get a new tool out of it as well!
…the “righty loosey” type of screwed 🤣
Use anti seize for the next ones
Can you get behind them?
If so then just drill them out and use a nut and bolt when refitting 👍
Well that sucks. But…clean breaks. You can drill those out and extract them. Clean the threads and put in new bolts. Center punch then start with the smallest drill bit in the set. Go slow and steady light pressure. Drilling oil is best but you can use about any oil to help keep the bit from getting hot. I use penetrating oil as that’s usually what’s handy. Drill all the way through. Then go step by step in drill bits until you can fit an extractor. Usually the heat of drill will help break out the rust. Worst case scenario, you drill out the hole, ruin the threads, find a bolt, nut, and lock washer and install through that hole.
Super helpful man, thanks
Removed sway bar, drill and screw it out. Next time dont impact those 12mm bolts they are old and crusty.
It’s not that bad. It’s going to be easier to drill them out. They’re probably rusted real bad on the back side. Try to get your drill as centered as you can and drill them out. If you get your drilled holes pretty centered you can drill out 90% of the bolt and pick the rest of the threads out with a small pick.
Contact Honda they are buying these back sometimes
If you have a welder weld a nut to whats left. The heat from welding will break the corrosion bond and it will come out.
In future with any bolt smaller than 15mm spray it with penetrating fluid and work the bolt in and out and back it out more when it feels free keep spraying it as you work it.
Thanks for the advice man
No problem
eh like medium screwed, get some “left handed drill bits” and a torch
I’d go with standard drill bits and try to push them forward and through. Less threads to deal with that way
Map gas my old friend
Could drive without it just take corners softly till you have enough to have it fixed
That’s good to know, thanks
Drill it out retap it
