I have a 2005 Toyota 4runner that I need to sell. The catalytic converter needs to be replaced and my mechanic quoted me $2,500 for parts and labor. I’m trying to get the best value. Should I fix it first? Or just post it online and disclose the defect in the ad? Thank you!

If if runs OK, I’d sell it as-is to somebody that thinks they can fix it on the cheap or run it as-is. You’d feel pretty bad if you replaced the cat and it got stolen before you sold the vehicle.

Get at least two more quotes.

What state/province do you live in / what are the emissions/inspection laws for registration/plates?

If it already passed… What problem are we trying to solve here captain?

Why can’t you get new tags for this vehicle you own, and passed emissions/inspection, to get maximum value out the resale of the vehicle?
