My car (2011 ŠKODA Octavia 1.8L petrol) is using a lot of oil, about half a litre a week. It doesn’t have an oily exhaust, it had a bit of oil around the filler cap but I don’t think it would be from me spilling as I have an engine cover, I did give it a clean and so far no more oil has popped up in that area. The mechanic said there’s no oil under my engine and there’s no oil stains on the driveway so I don’t think it’s leaking but burning instead. What are some of the things that could cause that? The mechanic also basically said he didn’t know which is why I’m on here to ask!

    Agree with u/caesarkid1’s points.

The 1.8 was well known for having piston ring issues which would lead to extreme EO consumption. A lot of friends simply replaced the pistons with forged ones at the same time.

Also, try not to idle the car to warm up if you are doing so. It’s a bad habit that will burn EO and cause carbon build up with direct injection engines.
