Wanted to make a NAS for me to be able to share data between my mac/iOS devices and PC. Honestly dont need a huge amount of data, and wanted to do this on the cheap side, but had a few questions.

I wanted to keep by budget for everything under $200 or so. I originally wanted to do a 2x8TB (one for parity) setup but realized how expensive it would have gotten for the 2 drives alone, and realized 8TB is way too much, considering that most of my data on my largest capacity device is games.

Would it be sensible to just operate with a RPi? Or would I be better off using a 3rd Gen Pentium that I have laying around (which just needs a case and maybe a better PSU)
I honestly dont need huge speeds, considering this would mainly act as a nightly backup. I am not doing any transcoding for plex with the system either, so quicksync isnt important.
Synology diskstation. 220+ or better is a good starting point.
