Hi, long story short my friend claims he needs an SSD to improve his laptop and I bought one when I thought on upgrading my laptop, but ended up not needing it because I bought a new laptop for me with decent SSD.

The SSD I bought is Crucial’s MX500 2.5 SSD Sata 6Gb/s SED and all I know about his HDD is that it’s 1T of memory…

I was thinking on maybe putting the SSD on the second slot of my laptop but he claims that it would be unnecessary and an HDD would be more handy for me and he insists he needs the SSD to improve his laptop

What you guys think about this deal?

I don’t have an specific plan for the second SSD. I just happen to have it and a laptop with two slots and thought that maybe in the future it could come handy for me. I don’t know if the second SSD will have any effect on my laptop (yes, I’m kinda that ignorant)

A 2nd drive is great. I can’t think of a case where it would cause a problem.

One thing a 2nd drive is often used for is backups. When it fills up, you can pull it out and put it on a shelf, then put in another drive and fill it up. This is pretty much the only case where a HDD is better because if you leave an SSD on a shelf for years, it can lose data.

I like to put my data on a 2nd drive. I tell myself it’s safer because the data drive will last longer since the operating system drive does lots of small writes all the time. But this is marginal. I use another SSD for this.

It sounds like your friend has a specific need for an SSD right now and you don’t. The HDD isn’t an even trade but it’s what he has. You’d be doing him a favor and it’s up to you if you want to.
