Hey y’all. Got an opportunity to buy an immaculate 94 Camry for a really good price and low miles that’s been garaged and dealership maintained it’s whole life. Only thing it’s been sitting in the garage for about 8 months. Obviously replace the battery, but should I worry about draining the fuel tank or anything else? Any tips appreciated. Thanks!

I’d be most worried about rodent damage. Check around for signs of chewing or nesting. Then I’d just fire it up, it’s a 94 Camry, pretty legendarily reliable car.

    Before starting it:

    • Check the oil level
    • Check the coolant level
    • Open and inspect the airbox (where the air filter is housed) for rodent nests
    • Generally inspect around the engine bay for rodent nests that could cause a fire
    • Charge the battery for a day or two with a trickle charger (this step is not required but never hurts)
    • Check the tire pressure and adjust to the recommended pressures. The pressure settings are listed on the driver’s door opening (where the door seats to when it is closed)

    Once started:

    • Listen for any unusual sounds
    • Check under the hood and to make sure everything looks good ( no leaks, burning smells ext)
    • Look under the car to make sure there are no leaks ( coolant or oil)

    First drive:

    • Take a short drive at lower speeds, don’t hop right on an expressway. This let’s the engine, tires and transmission warm up.
    • Take it to a gas station and fill it up with fresh gas… no need to worry about draining the tank.

Enjoy driving the car for the next 300k miles.
