Hi all. I have a summer house at the end of my garden. A year or so ago, I ran cat 6 external to the summer house from my “core” but now all of a sudden it has died. Running the cable was a tough job, something I struggled with on my own as the only real path was along the fence line only partially buried.

What is the best solution to remedy this?

Wireless bridge, if so what brand

Or

Running a new cable

Re-run either fiber or Cat6, both Outdoor rated in conduit and be done with it. Fiber media converters are pretty inexpensive.

It’s worth renting a small trencher for the weekend. Dig a proper trench and run 1” PVC electrical conduit (the gray stuff) between the two locations. Now you can run whatever you want — copper, fiber, or whatever — and it’s easy to replace.

I can look in to that and the conduit. There is a local DIY type place near me I have bought from in the past. Would cost a little bit but it’s probably worth it for a reliable solution

Thumbs up for conduit. Keep that cable safe even if it’s outdoor-rated. Also, if you do run new cable, run two lines along with a pull string in the conduit.

Did you use internal cable by mistake? The cable shouldn’t have failed after 1 year if done correctly.

Probably best to figure out what went wrong so you don’t repeat the same mistake.

Would mesh reach there? I recently added one and made a world of difference ( from house to shed office in the garden). I’ve found it to be a stronger and more stable signal than using a wireless extender.
