Context: I was out driving my car to go hiking (a little over a week ago), and was maybe fifteen miles out before my battery light turned on. It was a bit in the middle of nowhere, so I wanted to try and stop at a gas station before turning around. As I’m driving these last few miles to get to a gas station, my whole dash starts flickering - brake light, check engine, everything. My gauges start jumping up and down. I realize if I stop my car it’s not gonna make it back, but I make it to the gas station, go in, and grab a few things while my friend waits in the car. I come back, and they say that while the car was parked, the gauges kept jumping. We turn back, start driving, and the gauges are jumping, the lights are flickering, but now every time I’m at a light, the engine starts stalling, and it takes a second to get back into drive. We make it back, Im hardly able to park, and that takes pretty much the last ounce of power it has. I’m in my last couple weeks of college, so i just leave it for a few days until I can get a code reader - I try to run the code reader and it only returns an error message. The battery seemed fine though, I didn’t need to jump the car to use the code reader; all the lights turned on. So I kind of just ignore it again.
Jump forward to today, I figure the battery’s fine because the code reader worked, so I wanted to see if I could make it to the mechanic - car won’t start. I try to jump it, but I can’t turn the engine on.
Though I’ve had issues before, I haven’t had any recent concerns with the car - it’s been running perfectly fine for the past year and a half. I got the battery replaced about a year ago at the same time I replaced the alternator, so I don’t really think it’s either of those. I haven’t driven it much recently because gas is too expensive, and i have to replace the rims, so it’s not like I’ve done anything crazy with the car, but I really have no idea what it could be. The fuses seem fine. Does anyone have any ideas?
Check your battery cables. Make sure they are tight, tight like you can’t move them on the terminals with your hands
