Luckily, I was near a shop when it happened so we just rolled her in. The tech originally quoted about $800 if they had to drop the tank but when I checked on the status yesterday (their originally stated timeline), they said it could be a few grand due to how complicated it would be for this make/model.

Does this sound normal or are they just trying to raise the floor and take me for a ride? I googled $500-$1000 for dropping a tank, which I was told is the nuclear option to avoid if possible.

    You might not need to drop the tank, but it absolutely needs to be drained and washed out.

    What kind of vehicle do you have? Tanks are almost never hidden behind anything else, so the hardest step is actually getting it down from the vehicle.
