Yesterday, my 2014 RAV4 displayed both the check engine and AWD lights. I took it to the nearest Autozone for diagnostic testing, and the results indicated an issue related to the catalytic converter, specifically with a Code P0420 in bank 1.

The staff suggested using cataclean to see if the issue resolves itself. I haven’t tried this yet.

I’m wondering if it’s necessary to replace the catalytic converter in this situation. There are no unusual noises from the exhaust, and the vehicle seems to be functioning normally.

A few days ago, I topped off the engine oil and might have overfilled it slightly, but I don’t believe this is related to the current problem. To be cautious, I changed the oil this morning.

I would appreciate any helpful advice. I hope to resolve this issue without incurring significant expenses.

How many miles? If your catalytic converter is already going bad after only 10 years, there’s probably something else wrong in the chain. Is it burning oil?
