My brother has a VW cross polo. When you start it for the first time of the day it makes a continuous squeaky sound. After a while it disappears. Did some googling and it seems to be the belt, not entirely sure though. Is this something to be concerned about?

yes that should definitely be replaced soon. the squealing sound on modern belts is actually somewhat designed to be a wear indicator so you don’t break a belt and end up stranded.
