This can also happen when you drive on an open road and come close to the entrance of a city with a coresponding speed limit (GPS knows that) German example: 100 kph on the road outside of town, 50 inside the city.

The car will tell you beforehand to lift your foot off the accelerator, so you can decelerate to 50 by coasting and not using the brakes, therefore using less fuel and brake pads.

Source: I own a F21 1-Series that does the same. Source 2: I work at BMW where we develop driver assistance systems like these.

Sounds like a great system that every car should have, the amount of times i see people speeding up only to see the brake lights come on 100m further is staggering.

Ah haaa!! Does this mean you could answer questions about why the F20/21 does what it does and hints and tips?

I’m wondering if there’s a way to reengage D when you’ve pulled a paddle to drop a great or two in an auto 2016 m135i. Other than just continue in the selected great long enough that the car decides to switch back to D itself.
