I drive a Hyundai Atos (Hyundai Amica in the UK) 2009 model and it had a major service at 120,000km 2 months ago. Last week I started hearing a squeaking sounds when I brake, and also a low, barreling hollow echo sound (sorry, best I can describe it!) when deploying my clutch (manual car). I took it in to a reputable franchise mechanic last week and described everything, and they poured over it for 2 hours taking it for test drives and putting it up on the lift etc, but came back and said they can’t find anything wrong and they don’t hear the sounds I’m describing when they test drove it. Now a week later, the sounds are getting a little louder/lasting longer, but I’m not sure what this could mean as they inspected the whole thing and found nothing? They would’ve surely checked the brake pads etc as a first point of call, wouldn’t they? They said they did, and I’ve used them many times in the past with no issues. What could be causing this?
If the mechanic checked it out it’s probably nothing. Dirt. Lack grease.
sounds like it could be a worn wheel bearing causing the squeaking when you brake. also, the echo sound when deploying the clutch might be a sign of a worn throwout bearing. i’d get a second opinion from a different mechanic just to be safe.
