Get a Rwd manual with an n52 for max reliability. That would include e90 and e92 328i and 330i’s

All depends on budget, intended use (daily, weekend, family, project car ect), preferred style (saloon 4x4 estate/wagon). People live and die by the m cars (m3/m5 ect) but might not be right for you. Where you live and your journeys will impact too. I have a 340 and I love it as it’s my daily, has enough power, and use it with family. They can be easily modded too as the engine is very versatile. In the Uk the m140 is popular too. Little hatch back with Ton of power. Or if you want to go all out the m5 is there.

The world is at your palm with a bmw

The base model 3 series cars are really nice for the price. Whether you buy new or used, the value is outstanding, especially as economy cars are no longer really a thing, and even a Corolla is expensive now.

E46, classic strait 6 no turbos, manual 3.0 liter, that’s my current starter BMW, in 5+ years I want to buy a used m340i when it’s more in my price range.
