Curious what problems snuck up on you and what it took/cost to be repaired.

It makes me happy to own a Porsche when I that so many of these maintenance comments are not of Porsches failing mechanically, but rather most are of people who encountered unfortunate circumstances on the road.

2000 986 S with 50k miles, IMS was already replaced. It had an aftermarket throttle body but no tune. The engine blew a massive hole in the first cylinder on my way to get groceries. So that was an unexpected $12k maintenance item

Recently sold a beautiful forest green 986 boxster. In just under a year ended up having to change both radiators and condensers, driver’s side door lock mechanism, rear window, alternator, clutch, flywheel

2021 Macan GTS. Birds or rodents ate through the weather stripping on my panoramic sunroof in multiple spots while I was at work. No water intrusion thankfully as it was summer. Insurance took care of it but it was a few thousand dollar repair and the car was kept with the dealer for a few days to cure the sealants.

2022 Macan S. A small sensor that was part of the AC system failed right when I got the car. Porsche insisted they had to source the part from Germany. Took them 5 months, 3 of those just happened to be during the summer. Sucked.

    There are a few unfortunately. 2014 Cayman S 981.

Last year had a failure of one of the PADM engine mounts. Around 2000€ in total. This year the spoiler drive unit failed because of a cheap plastic part. 1000€.

Now there’s an issue with the oil temperature skyrocketing when on the race track. It’s being investigated. But I guess it’s another 1-2k €.

997 C2S was way down on power. Cat converter core broke loose and was clogging exhaust. Fab Speed cats and mufflers fixed the problem. Best excuse to go full exhaust.

Cayenne Turbo. The engine blew up on start up after a fuel refill. Luckily it was under warranty and they had to fix everything.

Oh it literally blew up like “if you look at the bottom of the hood you can see through it cause of shrapnel” not “it spun a bearing so it’s fucked blown”
