Anyone that uses the ‘sport’ mode transmission constantly is a moron, and if i was your passenger i would also look at you like you’re a moron. You will accelerate from a junction, and up to speed but the transmission will hold the revs thinking you’re going to use them soon. So you’ll be cruising at 40mph at around 4k rpm pretty often, and look like you can’t drive.
You use the sport mode on the transmission when you need it to either kick down more aggressively, when coming on to an on ramp or overtaking. The ± is to grab a gear quick, you don’t try and use it like a manual if it’s a regular torque converter.
Why would you stay at 4K at 40mph? Just because you don’t pay attention to what you’re doing doesn’t mean everyone does the same.
I’ve driven manual my whole life and only rarely find myself in 5th when I should be in 6th.

Most people like to shift their trans manually, auto or not.
