So basically I bought a new 3-2 downshift solenoid from AutoZone and replaced it tonight. It was the right one for my make and model, it fit right into the hole and the wire harness snapped in. But when I go into drive or reverse the gear didn’t engage. The shift cable underneath works and shifts with each gear but it won’t engage. I can only go into park and neutral. The only thing I can think of is I got a bad part. I drive a 2002 Chevy s-10, regular cab, with a 2.2 liter L4, 8v engine.

I’m not familiar with that vehicle specifically but did it require dropping the pan/filter to replace?
