Hi guys, my grandpa has an old car, but he passed away a year ago, so we just stopped paying his car insurance. Now we want to use his car for our little sister for her college, and we just want to do an oil change at walmart or a dealer. So could we bring the car to them and do an oil change while my sister still in the market for auto insurance? Do their system report it to DMV or PD? Thanks guys

They probably won’t report anything, nor would they know as long as the registration plate is current. However, it’s still not legal to drive without insurance most places I’ve ever heard (might be some state or states that don’t require it, but not anyplace I’ve ever lived). A traffic stop would cost you a lot more than putting liability insurance on it before hand, and a traffic accident could wipe out most people financially if someone was injured or they were driving an expensive to replace vehicle and you’re at fault, which I could see an argument being made that you were at fault for even being on the street with an uninsured vehicle. I’d recommend against it.
