We bought our Sienna nearly a year ago. Last week I called our local Toyota dealer where we’ve been having the car serviced and spoke with the parts department. I said I was interested in buying a spare FOB and asked if they had any in stock.

He verified they had 3 sitting on the shelf, all of which identical to the original FOB. I told him we bought one a year ago with the car and were still waiting for it to be delivered, and I asked if we could go with one of those instead. After a little back and forth we scheduled an appointment.

Today we got our FOB and, conveniently, a letter from Toyota just arrived in the mail saying it’s our turn to contact our local dealer about receiving our second FOB 😂

Overall, truly, a pleasant experience with this dealership. YMMV. Just wanted to share!

    FOB = Finger Operated Button

    (At least according to some of the techs at work…)

    There are a lot of guesses as to where the term FOB originates from

        It can also be a technical term in logistics meaning Free On Board, and has to do with who is responsible for the cargo at any given point in the trip. Can we stop with assuming the worst and making every innocuous thing problematic?

        The only people I know that would ever know that interpretation of FOB is immigrants calling other immigrants that word. (My Korean-American friends used that term for each other a lot when we were teenagers for someone going through a trying-to-be-Korean phase)
