I have an ‘02 Toyota Corolla that requires a front wheel ball joint and axel replacement. The dealership quoted me 7k but that seems absolutely absurd and was wondering what the cost of such work usually is

Do you have the actual quote to post? Cuz there’s no way they’re quoting $7 for just a ball joint and an axle shaft.

why are you going to the dealer?

$7000 for one ball joint and one axel? something isn’t right. what exactly does their estimate say?

the ball joint on that car bolts in. it is in the realm of DIYability with basic hand tools for about 100 in parts. The axle will take some more doing but sometimes shops will recommend replacing that after just observing a torn boot on the CV joint. does it make any noise at speed or during turns? you might have some years left on it

That’s your ‘f off and don’t bother me’ price. They don’t want this job. Another shop will be very happy to accommodate you.
