Stopped at a local BMW dealer, wife decided the X5 is what she wants and test drove it.

We know we want the X5 50e and with certain options so sounds like it’s really an order/build.

For those who have ordered a new car before, is there any insider tips that are a need to know?

What about scummy addons by the dealer such as low jack, window tints, how does that typically go when doing an order with an allocation?

Thanks

All you have to say is no. When I bought my 2024 X5, the finance lady was visibly frustrated and then just went into not caring mode. I said no to everything that I didn’t want.

There was some stupid car tracker thing.

    “No”

“But it’s already on the car”

    “No”

    It really is that simple.

As far as the deal, once you know what you want, call every dealer within a few hours and tell them you’re about to place an order and will they give you an offer. Some may say that you have to come in, to which you say it’s not worth your time.

I had four dealers in SF Bay Area bidding against each other. Got a decent discount off MSRP.

As far as what to order, for me, the must haves were

Driver Assistance Pro which you have to order with the parking one, but it’s good too.

Multi -Contour seats - This ups the comfort level on the standard seat by a lot.

Premier package or whatever the one below exec is called. You want the HUD and at least the HK stereo

    Climate comfort pack

The packages I ended up getting in addition

    • M Sport - The suspension is a nice feature. Also, the base trim looks awful and cheap. Those unpainted fenders and back bumper look like something off a Ford Edge. The front bumper is also weird, but passable. Also, the base steering wheel looks and feels cheap. The M sport wheel is a huge upgrade.

    • Merino leather : The sensafin seats are ok. They’ll likely require less maintenance. But, if I’m spending over $80K on a car, I don’t want fake leather seats. The Merino looks and feels much better. If the option was Dakota or the other cheaper BMW leathers, then it probably wouldn’t be worth it, but Merino is their best leather and it’s really nice.

    • Exec package- hadn’t planned on getting the exec package because most of the features are dumb, but the base console controles really detract from the interior. The sky lounge thing is really dumb and it has to be dark above to really see it so no streetlights. The soft touch doors are really pointless and is probably something that’ll break. The shades are nice but you can order that separately.
