Networking neophyte here. I have an older Asus RT-AC5300 located on my main floor that works fine for all my wired connections. However, the wifi signal is weak in an upstairs bedroom.
What is the best way to improve wifi speed given the fact that I have a spare wired ethernet connection available in this room?

You could run an access point using the wired connection. I used to do this with Ubiquiti unifi devices from the office liquidator store for pretty cheap.
Eventually, I ended up replacing it with an ASUS zenwifi ax mesh set for better speeds. It can do wired or wireless backhaul between the two boxes and has worked very well for me.
