I live in Norway. I genuinely hate how screen focused everything on the Tesla looks. Having to do everything by a screen seems like such a backwards thing to do.

I would prefer my climate control at least to be controlled with physical buttons. And no touch capacitive buttons please, especially for crucial things like turn signals and opening doors. It wouldn’t kill companies to have buttons for these.

I would like to get recommended an EV with good software, but not where software is everything like Teslas.

  • Buttons for climate control.

  • Preferably stalks or at least buttons for turn signals.

  • Actual handles for opening doors.

Tesla has good software but I don’t like being dependent on my screen. I want to use my screen for infotainment/media/navigation. I don’t want anything in the above list on my screen. Anything else I’ll take as a bonus.

I have been really thinking about the Polestar 2. Love the look, the range is great. It has the reputation of Volvo behind it so I have high expectations for it’s quality. I remember driving an XC60 a while back and even there having to control the HVAC through a screen in the middle of winter whilst driving on the highway felt terrifying. So if I can keep away from cars like that, I’m happy.

BMW i3 just about squeaks in to the 2020+ restriction, and it’s fully tactile. No touchscreens anywhere, mechanical doorhandles, nice substantial PNDR, good steering feel.

Go for one of the more upmarket interior packages, and make sure you get the wood trim, and it’s also very tactile across all the interior surfaces. Everything outside the climate/media binnacle has a texture.
