Hello, long time lurker here. I found a thread from 9 years ago where people were talking about buying a 318is and building it themselves vs buying a m3.

I have a chance to trade an Ak47 for a 1994 318is e36 right now.

I currently own a 2020 gt350 but I want a fun project car. My goal is to build a track / street monster.

I think my money would be wasted on buying a M3 just to gut the majority of it.

Is there any major different in terms of chassis other than suspension and brakes and what not that I might be overlooking?

Engine bay the same size? Overall chassis the same minus the M trim and performance parts?

Thanks!

You should ask r/bmwe36 but yes the chassis is the same across all and anything unique to M3 can be swapped over.
