Hello guys,
So it all began 1 month ago since I got this car (very much regret it).
The second week on cold starts, I noticed some very small misfires, that triggered the check engine light in the morning, then it goes off.
I got an OBD2 scanner to read the codes, it read misfire from cylinder 2 and 4.
Reset the codes and tried to switch plugs + coil packs between all cylinders, so if it’s an issue from each one of them, then cylinder 1 and 3 should misfire now.
It stayed the same, but then a day later, no more check engine and no more codes, until last week, I got to a stop and wanted to accelerate, it started juddering and misfiring like crazy.
I went to the mechanic, he did not have to see it, so he advised to change the plugs first.
I got 4 new spark plugs and installed them, to be honest, the situation improved by like 15%.
I took it back to the mechanic, he said it;s carbon build up and it’s very common on those 2.0 tsi engines.
He checked and disassembled the intake manifold, there’s barely any carbon build up, next check was the injectors.
According to him, when trying to reach for the injectors, he noticed that the valve springs for cylinder 2 and 4 are broken and need replacing.
he doesn’t do such jobs so he sent to another mechanic which I have an appointment with in two days.
My question is, does it make sense ?
Also, what is the possibility that the spring collapsed and the valves fell and hit something in the engine and ruined it ? Car drives fine above 2.5k rpm, under 2.5 it misfires and stalls.
There’s no knocking sound in the engine, but for sure the engine doesn’t sound like a normal operation.
Has the water pump ever been done? They are plastic, known to leak, coolant gets in the oil, makes a fine mess. You can get metal replacements. It might be a worthwhile “while you are in there” type of thing.
