I’m new to the group and my wife will also be after Christmas.
She just started a new company and the remarkable 2 looked perfect for her needs.
I’ve done some research and have been on the fence of gifting this for 6 months now. I saw the Black Friday deal and decided to pull the trigger.
So, my wife will now be a remarkable user and I’m looking for things I should know to help her adjust to her new device.
Thanks!
Don’t expect it to be all. Treat it like a notebook. Use the reader and markup abilities - yes, but it doesn’t mean it is seamlessly connected to your computer. Treat it like a notebook with the added ability to Markup documents.
Don’t copy things from old notebooks. I know that sounds weird but there’s an impulse to sort of bridge the gap and start copying things from your old notebooks into the Remarkable. Don’t.
Start fresh, make some folders, explore the installed templates. Get a real feel for it. And don’t go out spending money on custom templates just yet. You need to get familiar with the device first.
I use my RM2 every day for myriad of things. Work, patterns (knit/crochet), Journaling, and more. It’s a gamechanging tool for sure but it will take time to get used to.
Oh and definitely stop buying notebooks. The sooner you gain the mentality of “I have infinite paper”, the better!!
Here is a little resource that she can explore also from YouTube. She also has a Facebook Group: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL5WMPTuyG788EVvDJlk1zOmJnOmSKWZm_&si=qOpnRojH_ZUXWX5e. I agree with what others said, especially think of it as a Notebook, not a tablet or e-reader. I think people expect it to be a tablet because it’s sometimes referred to as such.
Wrap the sluggish unresponsiveness positively:
It helps you keeping your cool and calm. Stay zen, don’t rush it with your gestures!
And that way RM2 works just fine.
Spend time up front thinking about the filling system she will find most helpful. Organizing it up front helps a ton. Ask other users how they structure notes.
For some reason, remarkable doesn’t do enough to help users on this regard.
Also, figure out if she will use Oct. Depends a lot on use case, but also how neat her handwriting is. I don’t bother to use Oct, as my cursive is indecipherable, even to me! So that means my only hope to find past info is a comprehensive filling system, with key info on each notebook name, and notebooks carefully organized in nested folders.
Good luck!
Will it fit nicely in a purse or other bag she had that she always carries? As a guy, I found a whole lot of benefit in getting a satchel it fits nicely in so I carry it with me more.
Yes, she carries a bag that is perfect!
