I don’t know about transmissions/gearboxes.
I was wondering if anyone here has any insight on whether or not I can take a 4x4 auto transmission and take off the transfer case and whatnot off the back of it, swap with the backend of the 2x4 auto transmission and put it in my 2wd car?
Only asking because it will cost me, on average, $7k + Hard Parts to rebuild my gearbox for my ranger, $3-4k for secondhand box from wreckers/junkyard. But I found a rebuilt 4x4 transmission for $3,500 with warranty.

It depends. If it has a divorced transfer case (yoke on the input) the answer is yes but I seriously doubt the one you found is one of them. Some transmissions can convert tail shafts but it’s usually not worth the time and effort.
