Hi all,

I’m wondering what your opinion is on the undercoating Mazda offers.

I live in a city with snow 6 months, with lots of salt applied to the roads.

Does undercoating really do anything?

Not sure if it’s worth the extra charge.

Thank you.

If its the thick black stuff, no. If you get one, go with krown or fluid film. It’s probably a lot cheaper than the dealer

    Not at dealer.

Go to a well known detail shop that deals with big money cars. They will let you know what you need and pay for it.

Or just be diligent and do undercarriage washed frequently.

Cars have gotten a lot better. My first car was I focus ZX3 and. I made sure to do it. Wash and self coat.

My baby is still on the road today. Sad, but still driving

DO NOT RUBBER UNDERCOAT!!! You’ll actually make the frame rust worse!!! Get a fluid film (oil based) undercoating instead please! Needs to be reapplied/inspected once per year!

Mazda is not offering it, the dealer is, it’s a rubberized coating, a tech or detailer will get paid an absurdly low time flat rate to sloppily slap it on there and the sales person will stuff their pockets with the cash.

Don’t do it. Take it somewhere else to get a better product and application

    Not at the dealer.

If you want it done properly go to a place like Krown.

Or buy a few cans of fluid film and spray the undercarriage yourself as best you cab

I live in a similar climate and have never in my long life gotten undercoating. My cars are kept for 8-10 years so I can’t say beyond that. I would just say no period.

If you’re mechanically inclined you can do a decent job yourself. I sprayed mine myself with a couple of cans of surface shield (fluid film works too) Use a lanolin based product. Surface shield is supposed to last 2 years.
