Hey gang, I have a 2017 CX-5 AWD and have been getting pretty poor highway gas mileage. I recently went on a 2 hour trip and got about 24 mpg overall, a decline from the 27 I was getting on the rest of the tank while city driving. Traffic on my highway drive was light and I used cruise control to keep my speed at 75 or just below. I seem to lose efficiency any time I hop on the highway.

Is there something wrong with my car? It’s new to me since March and runs fine outside of the mpg thing. It’s got just over 110k miles.

How many miles? The engine uses direct injection, which leads to carbon buildup on the intake valves. Dealerships will sell ‘induction services’ which basically means spraying top-engine cleaner through the intake and taking the car on a spirited drive. If you wait till 60k+ miles then you’ll want to remove the intake and do a proper cleaning of the runners and valves. Spark plugs, air filter and tire pressure also make a difference.

110k. I’ll check the tires and engine air filter. The plugs were done prior to me buying the car but I can’t remember at what mileage. Thanks for the reply 🙏
