I am in the market for a new car with not much urgency. The 330i/430i, despite having become uglier, is on my list. But living in LA, I come across BMW douches on a regular basis and I am reminded of the BMW Dbag stereoype in the US. Help me overcome it so that I give the car its fair shot against such cars as the Model 3, A5 Sportsback, Arteon, Model S, etc.

I totally misread that headline. They haven’t stopped developing ICEs, just producing them in Germany. They’re still being built in UK and Austria (Magna Steyr?)

Exactly. The Munich factor had to be changed for the Neue Klasse cars. So production of V8 continues in the UK at Plant Hams.

We got incredibly lucky with the Merc 8-cylinder shortage during the pandemic when we bought our GLS 580 in 2019 pre pandemic price spike, and traded it for about 20K more than we bought it for in 2022. We also have an X5 m50i from '22, and I’m wondering if it might be worth holding on to. Seeing as we leave it at a vacation house and only drive it about 4 months of the year, we’re not exactly putting a ton of miles on it anyway.

“Won’t give up on combustion power”. They don’t need to, no automaker does.
