Hey folks, I bought a base CPO 2022 911 with ~3k miles two weeks ago. This is my first Porsche, so I had some questions and complaints as I settle in and learn what is normal or out of the ordinary.

  1. The start of every drive is not pleasant. We live in an area that is constantly in the 70-80s, but it will start and idle at 1500rpm for 3-5 minutes. Driving slowly out of our neighborhood at 5-10mph with the engine with engine blaring at 1500-2000 rpm feels ridiculous every time, as it just sounds and feels like the car is struggling, even if it isnt. After a few minutes of normal driving it quiets down.

  2. In general, driving this thing slowly feels like ass. The PDK shifting up and down between first and second is not smooth. It’s not jolting my brains out, but there are slight jerks and it feels like it’s always shifting too early or too late.

  3. In general, slowing to a stop in this things feels like ass. I have to try to mirror my foot on the brake with the downshifting of the PDK, because it applies varying amounts of brake pressure without me moving my foot.

The above is all true and tested in normal mode, sports mode, and with auto start/stop on and off. Are these just quirks of the car that will take getting use to? Or should I have the dealer take a look?

The 911 isn’t a great car to drive slow or in day to day traffic. If that’s mainly what you do with it, you may wonder what all the fuss and hype is all about. It’s noisy, it has long gearing and the NA engines don’t have a ton of low end torque.

It’s when you rev the car past 5-6k rpm, preferably on windy roads, a good freeway or a track… the car is truly in its element and it comes alive.
