Wanting to either use moca or powerline to get service upstairs to my pc but don’t have any experience using either. Pros and cons anyone?

    That’s an easy one

    Moca is great

    Powerline is garbage

If you really have an existing coax connection between both locations, there’s no competition. Powerline adapters are an absolute worst case scenario

Can I use the back end moca adapter directly into a Motorola surfboard for my two pc’s or do I need a Ethernet switchboard?

I don’t have any experience with power line, but am quite happy with my MoCA setup. Have just one segment going from my router location to a TV. At the TV there’s a small switch to which is attached the 2nd MoCA converter, an AppleTV 4K, and a Sonos Beam sound bar. Works like a champ.

Moca is the best. I currently use this for connecting my downstair Master Bedroom back to my rack in my office…
