Solar power wouldn’t work because there’s no place to put the panel.
On the other hand, automatic watches have existed for generations and uses day to day natural movement to wind itself. If they could utilize that tech to trickle charge the battery, that would help out a lot and the mechanism would be completely internal.

Actually you could put the solar panel behind the screen, I think some watches already do
