Hi All,
I’m having trouble figuring out what’s going on with the e-brake light always being illuminated on my dash. As far as I’m aware the only two conditions that will make this occur are when the e-brake switch is engaged (or shorted) or the combination valve sensor has been tripped.
Symptoms:
If I disconnect the battery for a while, after starting, the light will be off - but within 5 seconds will turn on. Once this has happened, the light is on immediately after stopping/starting the truck.
Stuff I’ve done:
- I’ve changed the e-brake switch
- Followed this guide to test if the combination valve sensor is tripped - The test light does not light indicating that it’s not tripped
- Examined the circuit diagram here (Fig 5 A-E21/22) - Here’s a pic with the trace highlighted
- Checked for continuity between ground and tan/white wire on the combination valve sensor - there is continuity here - but it’s high - around 2k ohms
Any other advice on where to look next?

Check your brake fluid level.
Please correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t think there’s a brake fluid sensor on this truck - only the proportioning valve switch
