I drive a 2013 Nissan Maxima - 187,000 miles. I keep up with all maintenance work and oil changes.
Recently, my car started having problems starting right after I pumped gas. I would have to wait 20 minutes before it would start again. Everyone thought it was my starter or transmission. I told them I believed it had to do with my gas system.
Long story short, the check engine light came on and the issue was an “evap system large leak”.
I bought my car to a mechanic and he did a smoke check. He said the issue was a leak in the vapor canister. I bought a brand-new canister and let him change it.
The problem is…the second I got into my car it smelt like straight gasoline but I thought maybe it was because I just had a part change. It’s been two days and the smell is just as strong and now my check engine light came on again. It’s so strong that it’s giving me headaches.
Should I be concerned that the mechanic has caused some type of major issue???
I also have a brand new cat converter so that’s not causing the smell.
