Hello what should I do? Went in Firestone to get an evalutation on my vehicle, said only needed a fan clutch. Went to another mechanic shop said didn’t like how it drives even though it is okay for me, no check engine light etc. He said the suspenison and front needs to be replaced whatever that means and hung up on me abrubtly. I understand it needs work it is an old vehicle. This shop won’t even specify what exaclty is wrong with it, but I need to go pick it up soon and pay for the diagnostic that was done on it? I don’t know who to trust. Firestone didn’t see big problems on it like this place. It seems like he just evaulated it by just driving it around the block drove like ‘a boat’. IDK how to react to this, help me with advice, thank you
It’s a private business, we don’t have to work on anything we don’t want to.
I’ve fired dozens of customers over the years because they are not worth the hassle and I can easily fill my days up with far less bullshit.
If a shop’s diagnosis is “it drives like a boat” then they should not be paid for a diagnosis. Then I’d recommend taking it elsewhere.
yeah shops can refuse work. not obligated to work on everything
Yes.
What kind of car, how old, how many miles?
I wouldn’t trust a comprehensive inspection from Firestone, or any chain tire store or Quick Lube place to be accurate or complete. Sounds like the second shop is busy and didn’t like the look of what they saw. If they mostly work on newer cars, that might be why.
Update- Went to go pick it up, his tone was different in person. Said it’ll probably need new transmission even though it isn’t slipping. Said he can try fix it at his personal shop and not at the FULL SERVICE mechanic place I dropped it off at. I was charged $130 for new bolts and battery check, I told them beforehand the battery was already checked. I will go elsewhere, they were overall unproffesional and the car is still going so
Firestone is shady and it sounds like you managed to find an even shadier person. Bravo
