It is in pretty good shape, just needs new tires and brakes.

Not sure if it would be a money pit potentially or if the Z3 was one of the more reliable older BMWs.

Check the rear subframe for sag at the differential. Not as much of a problem on the auto transmissions as it was for the manuals with the straight 6. Ask the seller if the water pump has been replaced, and if no; replace it. Will be a great roadster if you take care of it.

That price seems high for a US car. I would pay $8K USD for that. Just needs new $1500 in parts is code for “there is other maintenance I probably didn’t do”.

Common problems are the entire cooling system, the interior falls apart, power steering leaks, window regulators, oil leaks (valve cover, oil pan, oil filter housing) and front suspension arms/bushings. There are some less common issues like vanos solenoids that are pretty expensive if you don’t do them yourself. As cars get to 20-25 years old, you hit the end of life for convertible tops, AC components, clutches, etc.

On the one hand, they are fairly reliable. On the other hand, you get in the car and carefully avoid bumping the window switch, turn it on, your glove box flaps open, close it, drive off feeling a little cold, you know you won’t have heat until the the blend door warms up and unsticks itself, you look down and realize the door handle has come off in your hand again, you slide it back in to position on the door panel.

Looking at your flair this comment seems to have come from personal experience 😂

I know all too well about oil leaks with my 2011 328xi haha it’s amazing that this has been a historical issue for that long.

How long have you had your Z3?
