I have a 2009 bmw 1 series. Halfords believe it has a timing chain that has jumped (thr car takes a few times to start and the break is stiff)

Problem is I can’t book in anywhere for 3 weeks and I need my car. Can’t afford to rent one.

Would I be OK to use it occasionally for the next couple weeks until it is fixed ? Or am I screwed ?

Use a proper garage, not Halfords. Get the car checked out by someone that has a clue what they are doing.

No. Maybe you will luck out but more than likely you will scorch the engine.

Everyone is giving you solid advice but it seems you don’t want to listen.

If you drive it after what everyone has told you then I won’t feel bad when your motor siezed

If you can’t afford to rent a car, you will definitely not be able to afford a new motor, which is exactly what you will need if you drive the car with a jumped chain.

    Edit:grammar

If the timing chain has jumped once, there’s a chance it can jump again.

If it jumps again, there’s a very very high likelihood that your piston is going to hit a valve and ruin the motor entirely.

    Do not drive the car.
