Girlfriend has a 2015 VW Tiguan. 8th digit of vin is X. Engine light came on, took it to Oreilly’s and got a cylinder misfire on 2 & 4. I replaced the spark plugs and swapped the ignition coils to the opposite cylinders. Still the same error, same cylinders. Took it in to the garage that worked on my car’s brakes for a good price but really unsure about this quote. What do y’all think?

It’s a lot of work to get to those injectors. I’d have them do all four, it should be the same labor. Pricing it’s not too bad otherwise

Im sure the code just says misfire on cylinders 2 and 4, I’d suspect coil or plug issue way before swapping an injector that’s not pulled and tested after other options are explored!

Has it actually been diagnosed? If I remember correctly this is a GDI engine and is very prone to carbon build up on the intake valves which can result in misfires during cold starts

I’d hate to throw almost 1000$ at this and not fix your problem.

That’s why I drive my GDI hard and tell me wife I’m just doing car maintenance. Nothing like an Italian tune up to get rid of some carbon build up

If Carbon build up is the issue, how would I resolve that? Just by driving it hard for a bit like fickle_finger?

Dude I’d buy your own new injectors and donot yourself with a youtube vid you’ll save hella money. You could probably do it in 2 hours if that

Honestly bro watch a YouTube video and replace them yourself. Ain’t no way I would pay $1,000 to have two injectors replaced.

I don’t know about your car but it wasn’t that hard to change my 4 injectors on my accord and it took a couple hours. There’s YouTube videos on how to clean your injectors with carb cleaner, tubing, hose clamps and a 9 volt battery. You have to take them out first though. And I got the injectors at a junk yard so I got some practice removing them on a junker.

Bet the injector isnt even the problem. Usually misfires like that are carbon buildup on the back of the valves. Direct injection issue; no fuel cleaning them. I’ve seen it quarter inch thick in there.

Did they actually test the fuel injectors or are they guessing?

These Tiguans are notoriously bad for carbon buildup causing issues and I would bet dollars to donuts that your problem is exactly that and not two fuel injectors.

Go take this to someone that specializes in VW and get their opinion on it. Otherwise you might be throwing money for something that might not even be the issue here. It could be carbon build up etc.
