I know this is the BMW sub but i’m torn. Need a new car, my friend just got the 24 X5 x50e and i’m in love! But the practial side of me says I should get a Japanese car because of the maintenance costs but I just don’t love them as much. Help persuade me!
X5 x50e owner here — I looked at comparable Audi, Mercedes, Volvo, and Land Rovers.
In terms of balancing the newest tech, ride quality (comfort+capability), and luxury, you’ll be challenged to find a better vehicle than the x50e. If Land Rover PHEVs weren’t sold for the year with a waiting list, it’s the only vehicle (in my opinion), that rivals the X5.
In regards to Japanese vehicles… can’t help you there. Subjectively, I don’t think they’re in the same league. You either want “great” or “good enough”.
What maintenance costs?
BMW covers that. You’d be years down the road before you’d repair or replace something out of pocket.
Get the car.
To be fair, BMW only covers certain maintenance items. That’s why they sell extended maintenance plans.
I’m on the same boat. Always said I wouldn’t buy a BMW because I’m scared of the maintenance costs but I’m in love with the X7 and X5. Interested to hear what others think
The best thing that the X5e has I’ve the 40i is air suspension. It rides like a dream over California roads.
Lease it. Our X5 will be coming off lease in a few months and I am having a hard time finding a car as fun as it.
We will either buy the current X5 or look at Lexus GX.
