Title basically says it. Connect offers all of the functions I’d chosen Boost for on Reddit, and there are pretty few bugs for me. Nice job folks.

Same path, Boost automatic install, warning from trackercontrol (fdroid) that it contains 7 tracking libraries , uninstalled. Connect contains 0 tracking libraries by the app.

“Contains ads” “In app purchases” “This app may share these data types with third parties” 👀

I choose connect because it doesn’t do that, but tbf to devs, their time and work isn’t “free” even if access to lemmy is

Well I’ll be honest you shouldn’t be putting ads in a free thing. Voyager and so many other clients get along just fine without 50 philipino dating ads (for some reason that’s the only thing spammed to me)

That ignores the work the devs put into these apps. I appreciate the ones not running ads but we can’t pretend that they’re adding nothing

Ill be honest I couldn’t care less. The fact they have shown NSFF ads is fucked as hell and really bad if it was shown to minors.

These things are the standard for apps nowadays; it’s Connect and other Lemmy apps that are the outliers. I don’t blame that dev for wanting some return on their work, but I am happy that we have so much choice in Lemmy apps that I can choose to use something else instead.

I forgot about Boost and noticed today that it installed but I promptly uninstalled it. Lol I don’t need any other app except Connect.

Similar story but with Sync. Was planning to use Sync once it became available, but Connect offers for free what Sync charges money for, so…

Boost is getting a ton of criticism right now for taking your personal data in several sneaky ways. Beware.

I like both so I use one for one account, and one for my other account! I use both pretty equally so it balances out.

Also for those that don’t know, the tracking thing is a requirement for listing on Google plays ad network, and goes away completely if you pay to remove ads ($3.50, one time, ads removed forever).

Yep, don’t really know why anyone would go for an ad filled, privacy disrespecting app when there’s connect. Makes no sense to me.

I’m personally using Eternity more than Connect these days, but I agree, there’s no need to settle when there’s so many great apps for Lemmy already.

The people flocking to Boost and Sync are long-time fans who intend to support the devs and not see ads.
