I remember when the Minecraft wiki was on gamepedia. It didn’t shift around as it loaded, and wasn’t bloated with ads that autoplay and block most of the article. It started doing that when gamepedia got bought out by fandom.com. Glad to see the wiki getting off that site and returning to its bloat-free state. Unfortunately, searching for “minecraft wiki” still puts the fandom.com link at the top of the search results, so I thought it might be helpful to spread the news that the wiki has moved!
Fandom sites are such a mess, especially on mobile. Glad they made the switch, hopefully other wikis will follow suit.
Yes, it’s crazy to me how bad fandom has gotten. When they were wikia they were just mediawiki with some ads thrown in… it’s crazy what they’ve become. Every “fandom” is just a mess of ads EVERYWHERE.
This is such a great change. Fandom was a hell-hole.
I have submitted a request to duckduckgo to update the !mcw minecraft wiki bang to point to the new wiki.
I don’t understand why Mojang, and especially now under Microsoft, doesn’t host their own?
Why doesn’t wiki.minecraft.net exist?
They do, for their preferred game platform. This one is for creators and this one for users.
I kinda like that it’s maintained and hosted by the community. Feels very much in the spirit of MC (maybe the Minecraft of 10 years ago more). Minecraft is a game that evolved through it’s community sharing things/features/data/bugs so it kinda fits. That’s how most people learned to play, but honestly, Mojang should be covering all bills for it even if it’s a community run wiki.
Thank goodness, Fandom does nothing but ruin wikis. Most the ones I frequent have moved away from it, just wish the MTG community could migrate
Thank fuck
Wonderful news! Fandom is such a trash heap to use. At a glance, the new site seems infinitely more pleasant.
man this site is so much nicer! Kudos to them! Fandom is really annoying
