Get out now! Time to switch to Godot!
This could be a disaster for studios in mid development if they actually raise the cost or even remove free tier all together.
Quick note that the Godot engine is on the lookout for more monthly supporters.
Looks more and more like the US Gaming industry it fucking it self harder every day. I’m happy to stay with good old games" (sold by e.g. gog.com)
Thank God I tried to avoid buying Unity games months back.(Mainly cause of that one dropped plan of paying for every download and buying of Ironsource which put spyware on people’s phones)
RIP Unity, we won’t really miss you tho
This is another good reason to GTFO when the enshitification starts. Not only because the experience itself will continue to be a testing ground for how much more you’ll pay and how much worse you’ll put up with, but the endgame, is almost always them trying to get bought out for the highest price … either directly through a buyout or indirectly through an IPO. Hat’s off to everyone reading this here tonight on Lemmy instead of reddit.
Godot confirmed interesting.
As if deve didn’t have enough reasons to leave unity for Godot
dammit!
f*** Kushner, Saudi royals, and all the fat cats trying to f*** gaming in the a**

Dude,
You can say “ass” and “fuck” if you want to. You’re on an 18+ social media platform, and everyone would understand what you meant even if you weren’t. You can choose other words if you feel like these ones are too strong for you. It’s your right to do this, but it comes off as
f***ingfucking weird.Sincerely,
Everyone
I always felt “f***” was dirtier than just writing “fuck” - maybe that’s the intended effect
no one has to use or not use any particular language.
Then don’t use them. Using them but censored is not just dumb, it’s weak. Stand by your conviction and use other words. It’s okay not to use curses
Yeah, fuck those guys.
Godot about to become a helluva lot more popular.
Fun fact: every single slot machine at the casino I work for is made with Unity
I fucking knew it, of course the sell out is total.
If anybody has a bunch of LLM tokens to burn, and wants to use them for good, convert everything thats free and clear on the Unity Asset Store over to Godot.
They both use C#, we can worry about converting things to GDScript later.
Interesting, our ability to escape lock in has just increased greatly with LLMs as a universal method.
Someone is already doing it.
Well, thats certainly a neat idea, basically ‘make open source Unity in Rust’…
… but I don’t think that’s what I described?
Am I missing something?
Because if this is made out of Rust, incorporates Lua as a scripting language… I don’t see how that would be able to run most (any?) Unity assets, and it doesn’t mention anything about converting from the more Unity asset specific format to something more generic, or Godot specifically.
What I’m trying to describe would be more like this, but not 2+ years stale:
https://github.com/V-Sekai/unidot_importer
… and then basically just using an LLM to semi-automate the actual conversion of free and clear Unity assets.
I will be watching!
Oh God, my initial thought was unreal it is then but then no fuck that. Perhaps Gotdot, still has a long way to go with 3D development though yeah?
Godot is perfectly fine if you are a gamedev with experience for 3d.
Cryengine, maybe? If you’re interested in first class, AAA quality 3D game development
Unreal is removing their visual scripting and c++ for gameplay logic in favor of the “verse [programming language] + llm prompting” in Unreal 6
Sloppification to the max, good job EA.
Godot is perfectly capable for 3D and many games are using it. Sure it’s not AAA so if you mean that then yes it’s behind but for 75% or more of games it’s just fine.
I will keep that in mind, thanks!
They do a yearly showreel that really shows off the engine worth quickly looking at for examples. All are actual games https://youtu.be/7ZwEmxihlw4
id has an awesome engine but Bethesda prevented them from letting 3rd parties use it, and now Microsoft has gutted the company and fired the people who build/maintain it
