I finally got my Wireless Adapter working on my PC by enabling wireless in Mint and changing my PC and Frame to the beta version of Steam. They must have made some fixes.
Now I’m running into an issue where some games can stream from my PC and some can’t. I Expect You To Die can stream, but Beat Saber doesn’t have the option on the play button.
Any idea why this would be? I’m hoping it’s not because my router doesn’t have enough throughput or something.
EDIT: I did further testing, it streams non-VR games to the Frame just fine, but won’t stream them in VR mode. For example Escape Simulator (which can be VR) comes through as a flat screen on the Frame. Not sure why I thought I Expect You To Die said it worked.
EDIT2: After finding this thread on reddit, I found out that I needed to open these ports in my firewall.
Remote Play uses the following ports:
UDP ports 27031 and 27036
TCP ports 27036 and 27037
For VR Streaming, UDP ports 10400 and 10401
After doing that and leaving SteamVR open on my computer I was able to stream a VR game from my PC to my Frame. People insist you don’t need it open to stream, so more testing required.
If you encounter a lot of stutter while streaming, putting
"driver_vrlink" : { "forceBaselineVideoFEC" : true, "allowMultipleLinks" : false },into ~/.local/share/Steam/config/steamvr.vrsettings worked wonders for me. The allowMultipleLinks might make things worse, depending on your setup (it forces only the dongle), but the VideoFEC stuff worked wonders for me and the streaming stability.
I also read somewhere that limiting the bandwith to 100 MBit works well, as dynamic bitrate seems a bit flakey on Linux hosts, but I did not try that yet, might be interesting for games with fast movement.
Is SteamVR running on the computer?
Turns out I needed to open some ports for SteamVR to work! Main text updated.
Oh yeah, that will do it. There’s a script by a Valve employee (it’s linked in the sticky troubleshooting post) that checks stuff like that.
That’s a good point. I start SteamVR but it doesn’t seem to recognize the Frame and just waits for a connection from my long gone Vive. I’ll look into that.
