Stop making shitty “live service” games, make single player games with a story and at least 50 hours of gameplay.

My friends kept bullying me to play E33 until I finally caved. It was a good game, but was it better than the 10 or more shorter games I could have played in the time it took me to finish it?

Also it had some tired tropes in the beginning that pissed me off, but it got better.

I was arguing this 20 years ago when people were complaining about Kotor2. Kotor2 didn’t need more content. It needed to fix what was already there. Or even remove more so that the existing story could be completed instead of being cut off.

Instead most were saying Kotor2 would have been better if only it had the few more planets that were cut for time constraints.

The publishers learned that consumers want more content in a game even if it’s buggy and bad.

I feel like this article is framed oddly, as Embark has been running The Finals, which I feel is functionally a live service game, for quite some time, successfully, and with a healthy player base. Valid points made within it though.

Greedy fucks, that’s why. This game looks good but it’ll have the same fate as any other live service.

Those that make it a good game probably are not the greedy ines that pushed for a live service.
