Hard to find actual numbers for empty flats but homelessnes has risen to over 500.000 in 2025. If empty flats would not be used solely for trading and are leaved empty to fuel the rents, there would be no need for anyone to sleep on the streets.

In germamy its the same. For 2022 there were 262.600 homeless vs. 1.900.000 empty apartments

In Japan we have houses in the country you can buy for less than €1000 but there’s no work there.
I dont know exactly the numbers but there are empty flats in hamburg where i live.

As long as there are strong lobbys (which is part of capitalism) we cant change that. These initiatives and alike make you think you can but you cant.
