If we went with their ‘make the AI companies pay for it’ idea I fear we would be in the same place we were with the carbon offset bs. We need an overall reduction in greenhouse gasses quickly. Adding a bunch of new renewable capacity but dedicating it all to data centers doesn’t reduce our existing emissions and even without the electricity issue scaling data centers costs real resources that we need elsewhere, not just the make believe money the AI billionaires have mutually created out of thin air.

Non-violent protests havent worked over the decades theyve been done either.
Obvioisly there have been violent protests from violent environmentalist groups but such groups are extremely rare and their efforts tended to not lead to substantial permanent change from the public

Nah, the Climate Movement has laid out the idea and was making huge progress before Trump ILLEGALLY killed a fudge ton of JOBs to modernize our electrical infrastructure, suffocated science and most importantly, warped the free market, forcing coal power plants to stay open at the expense of cheaper, more robust renewables.
The ideas are still there. They just been politically kneecapped
