Other than quake 3, the quakes have all been subpar after the first one. I liked aspects of 2, but 4 was trash. Quake live is just a revamp of 3, and quake champions is okay looking and kinda fun but starting to charge for it is the opposite move I would’ve expected because it’s just kind of okay and not many people will pay for it.
QC started out being a game that you had to pay for. Then when that didn’t generate enough sales they went free-to-play and added all the usual micro-transaction and battle-pass shit. Now they’re back to where they started.
Maybe the thinking is people that have been playing for free for a while but didn’t spend on mtx crap will pay a small fee for a version without any such bs, and to keep playing a game they like.
And on the business side: cash crab before they shut it down as planned.
